Alfons Mucha – the most famous Czech Art Nouveau artist, was born in 1860 in Ivancice, at that time part of the ancient Austro-Hungarian Empire. He moved to Paris in 1887 where he started to work as a graphic artist. The poster for Sarah Bernhardt‘s play Gismonda brought him great renown. He developed his own original style, which became the hallmark of his time and is known as “Le style Mucha“.
